Atom LL #1, 2008-2009 (Saugeen Shores Minor Hockey)

The Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust Atom L.L. #1 team met the Saugeen Shores Atom L.L. #2 team for a strongly contested match on Saturday, Jan. 31st in Port Elgin. It was a well played game for Local League #1. The team looked very strong in their play and kept the pressure on the other Storm team for a good part of the thirty – five minutes.   The Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust Atom L. L. #1 team cruised to two back to back victories over the Wiarton Wild this past weekend. The two teams first saw action on Friday night, Jan. 23rd in Port Elgin. The Storm team played a solid game and skated away with a 3-0 victory. The first two periods remained scoreless despite the Storm’s dominant play.  The hard work of the Saugeen Shores team finally paid off in the third period as Thomas MacDonald banged in a rebound, beating the Wiarton goalie on the short side.   On Sunday, Jan. 11th, the Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust Atom L.L. #1 team took on the Shallow Lake Lakers at the Plex. The Saugeen Shores team skated to a 5-0 win through a solid team effort. The Storm dominated the play throughout the first period but couldn’t find their way on to the scoreboard despite their strength in the offensive zone. That changed shortly after the start of the second period as Bill Johnson skated down the ice on a breakaway and fired a shot on net, clearly destined for the five hole.   The Allan’s Fireside Grill/ TD Canada Trust Atom L.L. #1 team travelled to Plattsville on Saturday, Dec. 13th to take part in the Plattsville Pride Tournament. The day got off to a rough start as the team lost their first game to the Hanover Falcons with a score of 5-1. The kids just couldn’t seem to shake out the cobwebs and get anything going during this initial outing. The Storm’s lone goal of the game came courtesy of J.D. Barnard as he made a nice deke to send one past the Falcon goalie in the third period. Cole McArthur provided the assist on the goal.

  The Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust Atom L.L. #1 team was visiting the Wiarton Wild Atom team in Wiarton on Sunday, Dec. 7th when a power outage during the third period ended the game early. The Storm team walked away with a 4-2 victory despite the premature ending.
