Twice Is Nice For Atom L.L. #1
The Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust Atom L. L. #1 team cruised to two back to back victories over the Wiarton Wild this past weekend. The two teams first saw action on Friday night, Jan. 23rd in Port Elgin. The Storm team played a solid game and skated away with a 3-0 victory. The first two periods remained scoreless despite the Storm’s dominant play.  The hard work of the Saugeen Shores team finally paid off in the third period as Thomas MacDonald banged in a rebound, beating the Wiarton goalie on the short side. Defenceman Levi Klie, who had successfully carried the puck out of the defensive zone and taken the initial shot on net, was credited with the assist. Evan Lamont was the next Storm player to light up the scoreboard, capitalizing on a beautiful pass from Cole McArthur. McArthur and MacDonald provided assists on the goal. The third and final goal came as Klie fed MacDonald a nice pass and he took off on a breakaway, cleanly beating the Wiarton goalie. Saugeen Shores netminder, Cameron Plante, was not tested often but made key saves when called upon, earning him his third shutout in a row.

The two teams met again on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 25th in Wiarton. The Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust Atom L. L. #1 team played another strong game, coming away with a 7-1 victory. The Storm defence, consisting of Carter Swanson, Jake Olinskie and Levi Klie was rock solid. They worked well together to neutralize any offensive threat that the Wiarton team managed to launch.  Forwards, Bill Johnson, Thomas MacDonald, Evan Lamont, Owen MacKenzie, Ben Gundrum, Cole McArthur, Jonah Neron and J.D. Barnard put forth a commendable effort, using effective passing to work their way into the offensive zone and score. Each line was successful in producing numerous scoring chances and in the end managed to make seven of them count. Scoring honors went to Evan Lamont with a hat trick, Bill Johnson with two goals, and Carter Swanson and Thomas MacDonald each with singles. MacDonald also had two assists and Owen MacKenzie provided one assist as well. Cameron Plante was terrific in net, making critical saves when necessary and only allowing the one goal. The Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust team will have its next game on Wednesday night, Jan 28th in Paisley as it takes on the Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs.
