Atom L.L. #1 Posts Shutout Against Shallow Lake
On Sunday, Jan. 11th, the Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust Atom L.L. #1 team took on the Shallow Lake Lakers at the Plex. The Saugeen Shores team skated to a 5-0 win through a solid team effort. The Storm dominated the play throughout the first period but couldn’t find their way on to the scoreboard despite their strength in the offensive zone. That changed shortly after the start of the second period as Bill Johnson skated down the ice on a breakaway and fired a shot on net, clearly destined for the five hole. The Lakers goalie made the initial save but Thomas MacDonald managed to poke the puck in during a scramble for the rebound in front of the net. The Lakers responded with good offensive pressure to the Storm team but strong goaltending by Cameron Plante kept them at bay. The Saugeen Shores team would enter the third period leading by a score of 1-0.

The Storm took control again in the final period with powerful defensive plays being put forth by Cole McArthur, Jake Olinskie and Carter Swanson. The Shallow Lake team had difficulty penetrating the Storm’s solid defense as Olinskie skated down any potential threats and McArthur and Swanson used their signature long clearing shots to protect the defensive zone. Plante, the team’s last line of defense, was impenetrable as he denied the Lakers any opportunity to get on the scoreboard. Cameron’s solid, consistent play between the pipes earned him a well deserved shutout. The forward lines consisting of Johnson, MacDonald, Angeline Kimewon, Evan Lamont, Owen MacKenzie, Ben Gundrum, Jonah Neron and JD Barnard also made valuable contributions throughout the game. The forwards helped to maintain control of the game using good passing plays and effective forechecking. It was through all of these combined efforts that the team was able to post its first shutout of the season. Thomas MacDonald netted four more goals during the third period, bringing the Storm’s final tally to five. The Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust team will have its next game on Friday night, Jan 16th in Southampton as it takes on TCDMHA.
