Two “Storms” met in the Atom Division of the Saugeen
Shores Minor Hockey Association last Wednesday night, Nov. 26th when
Allan’s Fireside Grill/ TD Canada Trust L.L. #1 took on M & M Meat
Shops/Rintoul’s Pools & Hot Tubs L.L. #2. This game was a close one, ending in a draw between
the two teams. First period action proved to be exciting as the puck stayed
active throughout the full ten minutes. The L.L. #1 team had few shots on net
but managed to make them count. The first goal came four minutes in to the game
as L.L. #1 defenseman Levi Klie broke out of the defensive zone and deftly made
his way up the boards to the far corner to where he centred the puck on net and
Thomas MacDonald was there to bang one home. The second goal came in the dying
seconds of the period as Ben Gundrum caught a clearing attempt off the back boards to tap one past L.L. #2
netminder, Richard Besito. The period ended with L.L. #1 up 2-0.
The second period saw action at both ends of the rink once again. Both teams took turns moving the play up and around the ice. The period remained scoreless until the final minute when Thomas Forsyth of L.L. #2 made a nice pass to the front of the net where Coleton McNabb was waiting to send one past L.L. #1 goalie, Cameron Plante. The second period ended with L.L. #1 hanging on to their lead by a single point.
The third period started off on a strong note for L.L. #2 as Thomas Forsyth broke away from the face off and stormed to the net to fire one past L.L. #1 netminder, Plante. The play continued much as in the first two periods as both teams strived to achieve that game winning goal. However, a win was not in the cards for either team on this particular night as they ended the game with a 2-2 tie.
