Atom L.L. #1 Wins 7‐4 Over Desboro
The Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust local league Atom team brought home another win on Wednesday night, Oct. 29th in Desboro. The teams traded goals back and forth in what proved to be a close battle through the first two periods. The aggressive Desboro team was the first to light up the scoreboard with a goal late in the first period. A couple of minutes later,Thomas MacDonald intercepted a clearing attempt by Desboro to fire in the Storm’s first goal. The first period ended with the score tied at 1:1.

The second period provided much of the same action as the first as the two teams continued to
work hard. Desboro was the first to strike again, getting their second goal of the game a little
more than halfway through the period. The Storm responded shortly after on a rush by
MacDonald who managed to work his way around two Desboro defenders and sail the puck
past the goalie for his second goal of the game. Assists on that goal came from Carter Swanson
and JD Barnard. The final Storm goal of the second period resulted from the heroic efforts of
Ben Gundrum who spun around and managed a beautiful shot that cleanly beat the Desboro
goalie. Tough, consistent defensive plays by Swanson, Olinskie, McArthur and Klie went a long
way to keep the score close through the first two periods. The score at end of the second was
3‐2 for Saugeen Shores.
Once again Desboro came out strong, scoring first to tie up the game in the opening minutes of
the third period. However, this third period proved to be the best one for the Storm as they
fought back to score a fourth goal which came as a result of some good hard work in a
scramble down low around the net after a rebound off a MacDonald breakaway. Summer
Cameron‐Nashkewa banged that goal in with assists going to Jake Olinskie and MacDonald.
Ben Gundrum added some insurance with the Storm’s fifth goal, snagging a nice rebound off of
Jonah Neron’s initial shot on net. Desboro wasn’t to be counted out yet though as they added
another goal to the scoreboard later in the period. The victory was cemented after
defenseman Cole McArthur sent a nice solid shot that made its way through traffic resulting in
the sixth goal of the game. The assist on that goal was credited to MacDonald. The seventh
and final goal for the Storm came in the final minutes of the game as Levi Klie backhanded a
nice pass from centre ice to Jonah Neron who then sent a bouncing puck in from the blue line,
beating the Desboro netminder.
The Storm team worked well together as a unit to keep the score close in the early play and
eventually managed to bring it home. Angeline Kimewon, Evan Lamont and Owen MacKenzie
rounded out the offensive lines making valuable contributions as the two teams battled over
the puck. Cameron Plante was a solid force in net, eager to take on the challenge the Desboro
team provided. Shots on goal were 13 to 11 for Desboro.
