Busy “hockey weekend” for the Scotiabank Peewee AE Team
The Scotiabank Peewee AE team had a busy “hockey weekend” with an away exhibition game, a home league game and a special appearance at the Plex.

Friday night was a special night for the team where the team gathered at the Plex to honor Coach Richard Harris who started in net for the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks.  The entire team welcomed the Hawks onto the ice bearing flags for the Senior AA team and it was heartfelt for Coach Richard.  A short 3 on 3 game was played between periods to showcase some of the skills that the boys have learned so far this year.  This was a fun start to a full weekend of hockey indeed.

Saturday the team travelled to picturesque town Collingwood to play an exhibition game against the Collingwood Blackhawks AE4 team at the Eddie Busch arena.  This was a nice game for the kids to play as they don’t normally cross paths with the Blackhawks through regular season play, and the old barn in Collingwood sports some character that the other rinks we play at don’t.  The teams were well balanced at this venue and no score was had in the first period.  Heading into the second the Blackhawks upped the storm by 1 goal at the 12:00 minute mark.  The Storm appeared to struggle through the second period and couldn’t find pipes in the other end.  Into the third, and playing on wing for a previously decided line change, Nicholas popped in his own rebound for an unassisted goal to tie up the game at 1-1.  Shortly after, Hunter netted a beauty shorthanded goal with the assist going to Ozzie.  The Blackhawks with the empty net and extra attacker managed to net one and tie up the game at 2, with only 25 seconds left on the clock.  The game ended at a 2-2 tie.

On Sunday the Storm matched up against Mitchell Meteors AE team for a home town game at the Plex.  The game ended in a loss, with the Meteors taking the 4-2 win over the Storm.   It was only a mediocre effort made by the storm which ultimately ended in a loss for the team.  Notable mentions go to Ozzie, and Luke for the two goals by the storm and Nick, Chris and Lucas for the Scotiabank Storm’s assists.

Check your calendars for upcoming games.
