Storm LL#1, Carson Supply / Foodland, were guest to Storm LL#4 at the Plex on Saturday in a great match against two great Saugeen Storm Teams.

Right off the faceoff both teams got to work quickly but it was the hard work and battling of the Storm #1 wingers that set the tone for the game.  We saw early on Logan grab the puck from behind the net and carry it out front for a chance to score, Rhys digging hard and winning battles all over the ice for the puck.  Jimmy was fantastic at handling the puck and winning battles for the puck and don’t forget his chances to score.  We saw Jerri several times sitting out front of the opponents net and the puck was just out of her reach and she even had a sweet break into the offensive zone all alone with the puck.  This was fantastic to see these players really playing with all their might and skill. A few minutes into the period Lucas saw a chance to skate the length of the ice; Ian made no mistake and followed him right to the net to pop in the rebound off of Lucas’ wicked wrist shot.  Ian was awarded the Goal and Lucas the assist at 6:51 of the period as they put their team up by one.  After a few minutes of some great defensive work by all the players getting back to help out in their own end Austin D went for it, picking up the puck just outside our blueline and going the length to put another one home and his team up by two.  Period 1 ended with a 2-0 lead for Storm #1.

In the second Storm #4 was not going away quietly and continued to work hard but the fantastic defensive efforts by Talan, Andrew, Austin D,  Lucas as well as the centermen, Nick and Ian kept them from getting any real good chances on Andy.  These defensive efforts also turned into offensive efforts as each defenseman rushed the puck several times and jumped into the play with the centermen.  A great example of this at 8:39 of the period Austin D moved the puck out of our zone up to Ian who went in on a clean break and beat LL#4’s goalie with a real nifty move.  Ian was awarded the goal and Austin D the assist and their team was now up by 3.  Andrew also added another on a rush with Nick, the puck was lost in the corner, Andrew scooped it up and buried a goal on a nice wrap around to put his team up 4-0 at 3:01 of the period.

In the third Storm#1 never quit and continued their strong play in Storm #4’s zone.  Things were looking pretty good as all players were continuing to get back and help in their own end. Get the puck back out and into the opponents end.  Talan was a machine on his rushes up ice and had some real fantastic hard wrist shots on net.  Andy played a fantastic game in goal  as he was perfect making save after save and covering it up when he needed to, right up until a scramble in front with 50 seconds left in the game and Storm #4 managed to get one across the goal line despite Andy getting a piece of it with his stick.  The game final was 4-1 for Storm#1, great game team!!

This was truly a fantastic game as the players really played as a team and we saw some first goals in Ian, who managed 2 markers Andrew who were both awarded pucks after the game. Andy was awarded the game puck even though he did not get the shutout the coaches figured he was close enough and played a real solid game in net.  Austin D was awarded the Digger Award for his beautiful defensive and offensive play the entire game.
