Storm #1 take part in West Grey Tournament over the weekend
Storm #1, Carson Supply/Foodland, took part in West Grey Tournament over the weekend which proved to be a fun and exciting experience for all players parents and coaching staff and an opportunity to play some other Local League teams that we would not normally play.

Game 1 vs Hanover

The puck dropped and the tournament has started for the Storm.  This game started a little slow for the team as Hanover managed to get up by one despite Jimmy's great work in net.  Shortly after Brennan managed to knock a loose puck in that was lying in the crease and thing were looking good.   Hanover answered back quickly to put the Storm down by one again.  Then on a great rush by Austin D carrying the puck into the Hanover zone make a beauty pass over to Nick who fires one on net and Lucas was there to clean up the rebound.  This tally would force the Overtime and no matter what the outcome earned the Storm a point in the standings.  Hanover answered back on a nice beak through the neutral zone and the game was over.  It was a tough break but that’s tournament hockey.

Game 2 vs Shallow Lake

The team knew they needed a win here to keep their tournament play alive to play a third game.  The coaches just asked them to start the game on time (when the puck drops for opening faceoff) and boy did they ever.  Right off the hop the team was skating hard and going after Shallow Lake when they had the puck.  Before we knew it the Storm were up 4-0 and taking it to them hard.  Shortly after this however Shallow Lake managed to get one past Lucas but the Storm pulled through for their goal tender and managed two more making that a hat trick for Austin D and Nick and the coaching staff threw their hats on ice in celebration for each player after their third goal.  The push didn’t stop here and Brennan and Jimmy each scored beauties and Lucas shut the door the rest of the game to give the Storm an 8-1 victory and moving them into the consolation final.

Consolation final vs Walkerton

The team was pumped and ready to play for this championship but unfortunately Walkerton got two short handed goals early and this seemed to set the tone early in the game.  The Storm continued to try their efforts but the Walkerton tender proved to be too much as there were plenty of chances but he just seemed to be able to stop them all.  However Nick scored and once again Lucas managed to clean up a rebound to give their team two goals for the game but it wasn’t for his enough as Walkerton out scored them in this final.  Player of the game (tournament trophy) went to Jimmy for his fantastic netminding and Nick accepted the Finalist Trophy for the team from the tournament convener.   This tournament was our first as a team and it proved to be a lot of fun and the players really seemed to bond between games and on the ice.  Great work out there team, you all looked really great and gave it your all on the ice and that’s all we can ask for as a coaching staff.
