Novice LL 3, 2010-2011, U11 (Atom) (Saugeen Shores Minor Hockey)

The Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 opened up their 2011 playoff campaign on the losing end of a 7-4 decision last night (Feb 16) against their season long rivals the Arran Elderslie Ice Dogs. Despite finishing first overall in the regular season standings, the Storm LL3’s have been unable to solve the Ice Dogs yet this year.

The Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 completed their end to end run atop the WOAA Novice North Division with a 2-0 victory over the Shallow Lake Lakers.  The victory in their final game of the regular season gives the Scotiabank squad 27 points and clinches first place in their division, with an impressive record of 13 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie.

A spectacular save by Arran Elderslie goalie Ashlynn Stephenson with 12 seconds left in the third was all it took to keep the Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 from making it 10 in a row.  Leading scorer Curtis Vandenberg almost put the game away for the Storm, streaking down the right wing and driving hard to the net in the dying seconds of the game, but Stephenson was up to the task and made the save earning her team a 6-6 tie against the Storm.

Despite missing some key players from their line-up, the Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 manage to extend their winning streak to seven games with a convincing 8-0 victory against Bruce Peninsula in Lion’s Head on Friday night (Nov 26).
