Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 Off To A Great Start
The Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 team started their season off with a bang today (Oct 30) with a convincing 7-2 victory against the Shallow Lake Lakers at the Shallow Lake Community centre.

The team’s hard work in practice since coming together a mere three weeks ago paid dividends as the Storm took control of the game early in the first period. Defenceman Ryan Perry scored the first goal of the season for the Storm three minutes into the first period on a superb offensive rush while his defence partner Logan Lemke was rock solid at the blue line.

The game was evenly contested for the remainder of the first period which featured a few close calls at both ends, with both teams working hard to recall the perplexing offside rule.   Skyler Pomroy put the Storm up 2-0 in the dying seconds of the first period shovelling home a Sam Kolzelenko rebound.

The second period was a slightly more one sided with the Storm’s Curtis Vandenberg breaking the game open, notching a hat-trick and assisting on Kozelenko’s first of the season.

Storm goaltender Walker McNabb was solid between the pipes, making some brilliant saves throughout the game, being beaten only twice on two separate breakaways by Shallow Lake sniper Cole Dieter.

Both teams battled hard in the third period, but the solid defensive play by the Storm managed to extinguish any attempt by the Lakers to get back into the game.  The finishing touch came when Pomroy rounded out the scoring for the Storm with her second of the game late in the third.

The team has a lot to be proud of after this first outing and look forward to their next tilt on Monday November 1 against cross town rivals Southampton Foodland/Carson Plumbing Novice LL1 in Southampton.
