Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 Extend Winning Streak
The Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 team extended their winning streak to 3 games today (Nov 6) with a resounding 8 – 1 win over TCDHMA.  The powerful start to the season has led some analysts to draw comparisons between this squad and the ‘93 Maple Leafs.

Both teams took a few minutes to feel each other out in the first period. The majority of the play took place in the neutral zone until the midway point when Storm sniper Curtis Vandenberg opened the scoring, assisted by Ryan Perry.  Less than two minutes later Skyler Pomroy put the storm up 2-0 on a nice feed from Matthew Martin.

The second period was all Storm.  Despite making a few saves which could only be described as brilliant, beleaguered TCDHMA goaltender Charlie Scott could only hold his team in for so long.  The relentless Storm pressure resulted in four goals in a four minute flurry with Pomroy and Vandenberg each notching their second of the game, and Logan Lemcke and birthday boy Sam Kozelenko each adding a goal and an assist. Also assisting on the second period goals were Maddy Leger, Isaac Bester and Joshua Muzzell.

The Storm were brimming with confidence coming into the third period up 6 – 0, but TCDHMA were not ready to throw in the towel.  Storm netminder James Fowler had played flawless hockey up until the fourth minute of the third when a seeing-eye shot beat him low on the stick side. Any hope of a comeback by the visitors was dashed however as the solid Storm defensive core of Bester, Perry, Leger and Darin Shular shut down the TCDHMA offense.

Lemcke and Kozelenko rounded out the scoring in the third with assists going to Vandenberg and Walker McNabb.

With the win the LL3 team sits squarely atop the WOAA Novice North standings, so surely the rest of the division will be gunning for them.  Their next test comes in the form of a rematch with TCDHMA on Monday November 8 @ 6pm in Southampton.
