Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 Undefeated in 10 Straight
A spectacular save by Arran Elderslie goalie Ashlynn Stephenson with 12 seconds left in the third was all it took to keep the Scotiabank Storm Novice LL3 from making it 10 in a row.  Leading scorer Curtis Vandenberg almost put the game away for the Storm, streaking down the right wing and driving hard to the net in the dying seconds of the game, but Stephenson was up to the task and made the save earning her team a 6-6 tie against the Storm.

Coming into today with a 9 -0 record, the significance of today’s game was not lost on the Storm players, most of who arrived at the Tara Community Centre early and with their game faces on.  Everyone knew this was going to be a tough one against an Arran Elderslie team who only had one loss thus far.

The teams did not disappoint and the fans were treated to a barn burner from the opening faceoff.  Logan Lemcke put the Storm on the board early in the first, with Arran Elderslie countering less than a minute later. Not to be outdone, Lemcke added another marker a mere 10 seconds later, again putting the Storm up by one.  Francesca Alpajaro widened the gap to two on a nice goal assisted by Matthew Martin. The see-saw battle continued throughout the first period with Arran Elderslie going into the first intermission with a 4-3 lead.

Defensive minds prevailed in the second period which saw the teams exchanging one goal apiece, the Storm’s tally coming from the stick of Vandenberg with assists going to Lemcke and winger James Fowler.

Vandenberg rounded out the hat-trick in the third period with two goals, including the tying goal with 3 minutes to play (assisted by Darrin Shular).  Although she was very busy, Storm goalie Maddy Leger managed to keep her team in it till the end.

Despite not achieving the elusive 10-0 mark, the Storm Novice LL3 team still have a lot to be proud of.  With today’s tie they remain firmly on top of the WOAA Novice North standings with a record of 9-0-1 and are still the only undefeated team in the league.   Everyone on the roster, including our affiliate players Adam Perry and Wesley Kozelenko, has played a huge part in the team’s success thus far. Today’s line-up consisted of forwards: Curtis Vandenberg, James Fowler, Joshua Muzzell, Francesca Alapajaro, Matthew Martin and Adam Perry.  Defence: Ryan Perry, Darrin Shular, Logan Lemcke and Isaac Bester. Goaltender: Maddy Leger. Missing from the line-up today were: Skyler Pomroy, Walker McNabb and Sam Kozelenko.
