BDO Dunwoody Atom Storm Champions at Newmarket Tournament
The BDO Dunwoody Saugeen Shores Atom BB Storm spent the weekend in Newmarket at their 60th Annual Atom Tournament.  They would start Friday afternoon against the London Bandits.  The Storm was on the board first as Shawn Charlebois passed behind the net to Justin Marlowe who sent the puck out front to Cam Lightfoot.  London tied it up but The Storm quickly took the lead back when Ben Lalonde passed behind the net to Cam Lightfoot to Shawn Charlebois out front who buried it.

They would add to their lead as Emma Vanhaelemeesch scored with the assists going to Justin Marlowe and Isaac Fewster.  Halfway through the second with the Storm on the power play, Emma would backhand it to the net, Shawn would take a shot and Justin would get it in.  The Bandits would get one more in the third and The Storm would also get one more courtesy of Justin, Cam and Hunter Cannon to win 5-2.

Early Saturday morning, they played the hometown team, The Newmarket Redmen.  Emma would get one on her own in the first.  Justin would get one on his own in the third.  The Redmen would also get one in the third but couldn’t get another.  So the Storm win a close one 2-1.

Saturday afternoon, The Storm would meet the other Storm from Guelph.  Cam Lightfoot would get the only goal of the first with assists from Justin Marlowe and Nolan Dereski.  Guelph would tie it up in the second.  With the extra player to start the third, Shawn Charlebois would get the puck to Justin and he’d put it top shelf.  Guelph would tie it up again two minutes later.  Two minutes after that, Brayden Horseman would get the puck to Cam for the game winner.  Just to make sure, Hunter Cannon would send one up top and Justin Marlowe would get an empty-netter for the 5-2 win and a trip to the semi finals.

The Storm would take on the West London Hawks early Sunday morning.  There would be no scoring until the second when Shawn Charlebois would feed it from the corner to Brayden Horseman.  The Hawks would tie it up a minute later.  Then Isaac Fewster would pass to Jack Middleton who skated up the ice and scored but London would tie it up again two minutes later. With 38 seconds left in the second, the puck would go from Hunter Cannon to Emma Vanhaelemeesch to Justin Marlowe who would backhand it in.  Some much needed insurance came early in the third with another backhanded goal by Justin from Cam Lightfoot.  As the game wound down, Justin would put one in the empty net for the 5-2 win and it was off to the finals against the Oakville Rangers.

The final game was a nail-bitter, as expected.  Cam Lightfoot would start the scoring at the halfway point of the first.  Oakville would get one early in the second.  William Forsyth would find Justin Marlowe who got the go-ahead goal.  Seconds later, Ben Lalonde would add to the lead.  The Rangers got one before the period ended.  The action went from one end to the other through the third until Justin would put one past the Oakville goalie with two minutes left.  Emma would find the back of the net with 49 second left in the game and the Storm would win the Championship with a 5-2 win.  Great job on the blue line from Kent Ribey and between the pipes by Christian Doubt.
