Our Bantam HL Girls secured their first win of the season in Durham against West Grey in a back and forth affair taking it 4-3. A special congratulation goes to #11 - Sarah Bester with a hat trick in the afternoon tilt.
The first period saw the Storm take the lead on Bester’s
first, which was a top shelf rocket after being sprung on a break away with an
assist by #19 - Sarah Underwood. The
second period saw the teams exchange goals with West Grey bringing it even only
to have the Storm retake the lead at 2 to 1 only four minutes later with Bester
scoring her second assisted by #4 - Mackenzie Hall. The third period was a scoring haven with 4
goals. West Grey was trying so hard, and
drew even at 2, only to be answered 16 seconds later with #17 – Abby Acton’s
first goal as a Bantam set up with a lovely touch pass out front from the mighty
#6 - Rachel Kelly. This took the Storm
back out front 3 to 2. Three minutes
later West Grey clawed back to tie the match at three’s. Once again, the Storm Girls 3rd
period prowess was not going to be undone, and Bester notched her 3rd
of the game – again 16 seconds later – to take the lead for the final time and
secure their first win of the season.
Mackenzie Hall came inches away from scoring a full length of the ice empty
netter but the buzzer just beat the puck over the goal line. It’s a goal in our hearts Mackenzie.
The Bantam Girls would like to extend a thank you to our Pee
Wee AP sisters for making the journey to Durham on the beautiful Sunday
afternoon > Abby Acton, Rachel Kelly, Ainsley Herron and Tiffany Kewakeshig
in goal.
Coach Ken.
