Saugeen Shores Storm Too Much For Goderich Sailors As U11 Rep Take Season Opener
The U11 Saugeen Shores Rep Storm, sponsored by UNIFOR rolled in and overtook the Goderich Sailors to open their season with a solid 6-3 victory. Mack Smith opened the scoring early in the first period, follow by two more Storm goals from Kai Bailey and Rich Buckland respectively before Goderich answered with one of their own.  Cooper Henderson did a nice job of staying aggressive and put in a pair of goals from rebounds and puck scrambles in front of the Goderich net.  The Storm ended the period ahead of the Sailors 5-1.

The Storm got into a bit of penalty trouble in the second period with Cooper Henderson and Brock Harrison serving overlapping penalties for tripping and Micah Alexander later visiting the penalty box for body checking.  The Storm managed to defend against the 5 on 3 portion of the penalty, but Goderich capitalized during the remaining 5 on 4 advantage bringing the score to 5-2 at the end of the second.

The prettiest goal of the game came in the third period when Chase Cosgrove captured the puck behind the net and connected with Kai Bailey for a wide-open shot that brought the Storm total to 6 goals.  The Storm defensive pairs worked well together throughout the game, breaking up Sailor attacks and supporting the forwards in the offensive zone.  Net-minder Kaine Myers stayed solid behind the Storm skaters and got some help from defender Greyson Wolfe who saved a shot near the end of the game holding the Sailors to 3 goals.

With the final result of 6-3, the Storm players were excited to post a win for their first game of the season, and are looking forward to meeting the Sailors again on Sunday, this time on home ice.  The strong showing against Goderich was a great start to the U11 Rep Storm’s season, and the solid coaching team led by Josh Hopkin is no doubt looking forward to seeing the team continue to develop as the season progresses.

Player of the game award was presented to #15 Chase Cosgrove. Go Storm!
