Just this past Saturday 11Jan2014, the Maisie Trelford LL4 team (McNuggets) made a strong appearance in the Tara AEMHA tournament.
The tournament, which was the first one for the McNuggets was hosted at the Tara Community Centre, and had 7 Novice teams in attendance, three of which were from Saugeen Shores.
Let me start off by saying that every McNugget team member played hard, had fun and made this tournament an enjoyable time for all parents and friends in attendance.
Our first game, of three for the day, started off with facing against the Walkerton Capitals, a known strong Novice LL team consisting of mostly second year Novice veterans. The first two periods of the game were clearly even and had both teams showing their game faces. We let down our guards a bit in the third period and the Capitals snatched up a few more goals winning 5-1.
Moving onto the B side of the tournament, we faced off against West Grey. This was one of the best played games by the McNuggets and a solid win. The McNuggets defeated West Grey 6-2 and left only 1 hour until the final game for the B-side of the tournament.
The team had just enough time to cool down, change our socks and jerseys and get prepped for our final game of the day.
Game three, played against Van Geel’s LL3 team was a true match up.
Just over a week ago we had a tight match against this team, and Saturday’s game three was no different.
On the edge of our seats, or standing in my case, we cheered on our McNuggets.
Unfortunately late into the third we gave up our 3-3 tie and suffered our final loss of the day.
Losing 4-3 ended our day, but not our spirits.
The team played exceptional and had fun doing it!! True sportsmanship was had on the ice, and also during the mini sticks battles between ice times. Way to go McNuggets!
A note should be made about our goaltending…Doughboy!! This little guy received MVP for the first and the second game that the McNuggets played. The third game MVP was had by Liam. These awards were well deserved.
Special thanks go out to all parents and siblings that helped with organizing lunches and snacks on this fun filled day. Surely this will be one day that the kids remember.
Our next game is on the road at the Desboro arena Tuesday January 14th at 7:00pm against TCDMHA rebels. Dress warm.
