LL4 Maisie Trelford Had A Busy Hockey Weekend
The LL4 McNuggets had a hockey filled weekend starting out with a practice Thursday evening at the Southampton coliseum and then a game Friday, Saturday and Sunday totaling a 4 day on-ice stretch for the team.

Friday Night the LL4 McNuggets were on the road and faced the Shallow Lake Lakers 2 team at the Shallow Lake and District Community Centre.  This team has a reputation for playing very aggressive and was in 5th place over all in the standings.    Knowing this ahead of time left us with no surprises and we knew that it was a must to come out strong and also play aggressive.  Surprisingly enough, it was a penalty free game.

The McNuggets battled from start to finish and managed to stay one goal ahead of the opposition tallying up a final score of 6-5.  We were short one player, Tyler, but rearranged lines to suit our needs.

Honorable mentions for this game include Liam getting 1 goal and 2 assists, Lucas with one goal, William with 2 goals, Emmett with 2 goals Brandon 1 goal and 1 assist, and Nicholas with 1 assist.

The game puck went to Liam for his great game.

Saturday’s game was held against Van Geel’s LL3 team in town at the Plex.  We haven’t had much luck when facing this team and Saturday’s game wasn’t much different.  Although the McNuggets played well, we couldn’t get a break in this close game.  Van Geel’s LL3 team won the game 4 to 3.

Honorable mentions for this game include Lucas getting 2 goals, William with 1 goal, and Sean with 1 assist.  Our goalie Lucas “Doughboy” took the game puck for player of the game.  Great job Lucas!

Sunday’s game was played in Lions Head against the Bruce Peninsula Predators.  The game got off to a rocky start, or I should say no start due to the referees not being there.  The McNuggets were on the ice for their 2:30pm slot and completed their cheers and pre game warm up before exiting the ice to wait for the officials.  The 55 minutes that was spent waiting was a real momentum drain.  The team struggled to maintain focus.

Once on the ice again, the McNuggets started to regain focus.  Brandon aka “killer” broke the ice and got the first goal of the game.  The Predators tied up the game where the score remained at 1 to 1 until the third period when Sean “Battles” was in the right place at the right time to receive a perfect pass from Will to get the winning goal and Sean’s first goal this season.  The final score was McNuggets 2, Predators 1.  Will Got both assists for the two goals scored.

Game puck for this playoff game went to Sean.  The smile and excitement shown when he received the award was awesome.  Great game Sean.

Hockey slows down a bit this week, as we are not back on the ice until Thursday at 6:00pm for practice in Southampton, and then Saturdays game at the Plex on Saturday at 4:45pm against LL1.

Come and cheer on our LL4 McNuggets.
