The Sutton Huron Shores Realty Storm were able to secure a point in a 4-4 draw with the Shallow Lake
Lakers #2 team on Saturday. After an exciting back
and forth game, the Storm needed a last minute goal to avoid suffering their first defeat since their season opening game.
Fans expected a good game from the start as both
teams had only suffered one defeat to this point in the season. And the teams did not disappoint providing
great team play and back and forth action.
Shallow Lake opened the scoring mid-way through the first period on a
breakaway goal. The lead would not last
long though as Jason Legge picked up a loose puck in the slot and fired a wrist
shot into the net to tie the game at 1 after one period.
The Storm came out fast in the second and were
able to score two goals and take a 3-1 lead.
The first goal of the period was created off a beautiful play by Joseph
Hodgkins, who took the puck wide into the zone, circled behind the net, and put
a great pass on the stick of Hunter Palinsky.
Hunter was being covered closely, but showed great determination in
front of the net and was able to get off a shot which slipped by the Laker
goalie to give the Storm its first lead of the game. Chad Lawerence then scored minutes later to
give the Storm a 3-1 lead. The Lakers
however had no plans of letting the Storm walk away with the game. They scored two goals of their own over the
final minutes of the second period and the game went to the third period tied
at 3.
After end to end action for most of the third
period, the Lakers were able to take a late 4-3 lead and looked to be on their
way to handing the Storm a defeat.
However, with just under a minute left Jason Legge scooped up a loose
puck in the neutral zone, deked out two Laker defenders, and capped a great
rush with a bullet wrist shot for his second goal of the game. The goal knotted the game at 4 with just 42
seconds remaining, and the game ended in a 4-4 tie.
The Storm defence was anchored by Ella Marshall
and Cameron Cumming, who paired together to thwart numerous rushes and minimize
the quality scoring chances the Lakers had on goalie Malachi McKinnon, who was
making his first career start between the pipes. Brodie Palinsky also played a great game for
the Storm winning battles for pucks all over the ice.
This coming weekend the Storm take on the
Saugeen Shores LL#3 team on December 14th at 12:00pm at the
Plex. These two teams met just over a
week ago and played a very competitive and exciting game with the Sutton Huron
Shores Realty Storm skating away with a 4-3 victory. Please come out and support the team!!
