13-1-3.
Sutton Realty Storm vs
Arran-Elderslie
On January 18th the
Storm hosted the Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs in Port Elgin. The Sutton Realty
Storm were ready to go from the start and Jason Legge opening the scoring on
the very first shift, with assists going to Charlie Marshall and Brodie
Palinsky. The first shift was a sign of things to come, as Legge would score
twice more during the period and complete a natural hat trick. His teammates
deserve some of the credit as well with Joseph Hodgkins and Sean Moorehead each
picking up assists on nice passes to give Jason the opportunity to score.
The second period was
played mostly in the neutral zone with neither team generating many chances.
The period was scoreless until the last minute, when Hunter Palinsky raced in
from his defense position to pick up a loose puck and put it home to give the
Storm a 4-0 lead.
In the third the Storm
continued to play a strong game in all three ends. Ella Marshall and Ozzie
Alpaugh formed a strong defense pairing which combined with persistent back
checking from forwards Malachi McKinnon and Sean Moorehead to keep the Ice Dogs
to just a few chances. When they did break through goalie Chad Lawerence was
ready and he played great in pitching a shutout for the home side. Legge added
his fourth goal in the third, with an assist going to Charlie Marshall, and the
game ended with the Storm winning 5-0.
Sutton Realty Storm vs
Saugeen Shores #1
The following afternoon
the Sutton Realty Storm took on Saugeen Shores #1 in Southampton. This was a
match between two of the top teams in the league and the game resulted in an
exciting back and forth battle between the two sides.
The first period started
fast and both teams were buzzing around the net looking for the first goal.
Sutton Realty Storm goalie Logan Bursey had to be sharp in the opening minutes
to keep his team from falling behind. Neither team could capitalize on their
opportunities until a great individual effort by Legge broke the deadlock and
resulted in a 1-0 Storm lead.
In the second the teams
continued to go up and down the ice looking for the next goal. The Sutton
Realty Storm were rewarded when Chad Lawerence took a Hunter Palinsky pass, and
fired a shot between the goalies legs to give his team a 2-0 lead. A few
minutes later Legge picked up his second of the game, and it was 3-0 for the
Storm. Just before the period ended, Saugeen Shores #1 took a penalty which
ended up working to their advantage and turned the tide of the game. While
shorthanded they scored two goals and got the score back within one.
Saugeen Shores #1 rode
the momentum from their two shorthanded goals into the third and quickly scored
two more goals to take their first lead of the game 4-3. However Sutton Realty
would not go down without a fight and red hot sniper Jason Legge scored his hat
trick goal to even the score at 4. Although both teams would battle hard over
the last 5 minutes, neither could muster a goal and the game ended in a 4-4
tie.
