The Sutton Huron Shores Realty Storm took on the Saugeen Shores LL#3 squad
over the weekend and were put to the test in a great game. Both teams played very
hard but in the end the Sutton Realty Storm managed to secure a 4-3
victory.
The game started off with a fast pace as both
teams had great scoring chances during the early stages of the game. However it
was the Sutton Realty Storm who struck first. After some great work along the
boards by Jack Baerg and Gaige Cameron, the puck squirted free to Malachi
McKinnon who took the puck in on a breakaway and gave the Storm an early 1-0
lead.
The lead was short lived though as the LL #3
Storm would strike back twice before the end of the period to take a 2-1 lead.
Sutton Realty would even things up in the second after a hard working shift led
to a Joseph Hodgkins rebound goal off a Jason Legge wrist shot. Chad Lawerence
also assisted on the goal and both Charlie Marshall and Logan Bursey made key
plays to the keep the puck in the zone eventually leading to the goal. After
the LL#3 side again took a lead, Jason Legge scored a beautiful backhand goal
to even the score at 3-3 after two periods.
The third period was back and forth throughout
and goaltender Sean Moorehead saved his best play for the third period as he
made several saves on goalmouth scrambles to keep the score deadlocked at 3.
Just when it looked like the game would end in a tie, Chad Lawerence fired a
hard wrist shot from the top of the circle that eluded the goalie and provided
the goal which gave the Sutton Realty Storm a hard fought 4-3 victory.
Ozzie Alpaugh played his best game of the season
and provided a spark with his great play. The win improved the Sutton Realty
Storm’s record to 6-1-1.
The prior weekend the Storm earned their fifth victory of the year, edging the
Bruce Peninsula North Stars #1 team 3-2. Jack Baerg and Sean Moorehead scored
early in the game, and Cameron Cumming provided the heroics scoring the winner
with just over a minute remaining. Charlie Marshall volunteered to put on the
goalie pads for the game and did not disappoint as he turned in an excellent
performance holding the North Stars to just two goals.
This coming weekend the Storm faces a tough
Shallow Lake team in Port Elgin at the Plex, with Shallow Lake's only loss of
the season coming at the hands of the Storm. The game is scheduled to start at
12pm on Saturday December 7th
