Willy's Contracting Show Their Mettle
Sunday morning Willy's Novice Tm#2 travelled to the Davidson Centre in Kincardine to take on the Kinucks Tm#3.  The opening handshake presented the appearance of a David vs Goliath mismatch with the Saugeen Shores players looking skyward at their towering opponents. However, Wee Willy's were prepared and undaunted.

The opening faceoff had Kaya Hall centering two Tyke AP’s, Wyatt McNabb and Lucas Noe. Before the end of the shift, Kaya had Willy’s up by one. And on the line’s last shift of the period Kaya put his team ahead by two. The second period was again owned by Saugeen Shores.  Olivia Hall made a great rush and scored a beauty to have her team go up by three.  The big ice surface was a perfect fit for Kaya as he found another gear to pull away from his backcheckers to score his hat-trick top shelf. AP Goalie Jacques Lariviere kept his net clean until the last minute of the period when a Kincardine shooter picked the corner on a blast from the slot. However, Spencer Sutter-Lammie who like Kaya relished the big ice, restored their four goal lead to end the period.  The line of Dylan Poulsen, Quinn Fowler, and Spencer were stymied time and again by a very strong goaltender. Worthy of note was a great second effort by Dylan. He let a hard shot go lying on the ice, quasi-Ovechkin that whistled an inch past the post.  Although undersized, the line of Olivia, Emily Russett, and Cali Drope played big and refused to be intimidated. Kayden Vance, Zach Leaver, and Camden Ritchie played like rep defencemen and time after time confidently cleared the puck out of the danger zone. Camden's hard work earned him the game's Digger Award. The third period was almost disastrous for Willy’s. Lifted by great goaltending, the Kinucks mounted a comeback, registering four unanswered goals to tie the game at 5. But Jacques made the big save when he had to and Spencer responded with the winner with under two minutes to go to make it 6 –5 Willy’s Contracting.  The only assist registered on the gamesheet was Quinn Fowler but it was evident each goal had its helpers. This was a great game! Practice Wednesday 6pm at The Coliseum with two games coming up on the weekend.
