Long Time Between Games
The Southampton Foodland/Carson Plumbing hadn't played a game since last year. To be more precise, December 11th, which was an exhibition game vs Walkerton. Since then they enjoyed their two week Christmas holiday break and some practices so the coaches didn't know what to expect Saturday afternoon at The Plex vs the Arran-Elderslie Ice-Dogs.

Saugeen Shores won the shootout 9 - 6 between the two evenly matched teams. If not for the strong performance by Blake Shields in his debut in goal it could have easily been a tie game. The home team scored three goals in the first period by Ray Hou, Spencer Sutter-Lammie, and Kaya Hall only to have the visitors come back with two of their own early in the second and the game was on. This seemed to spark the Saugeen players as they responded with 5 unanswered goals before the period ended. Ray and Kaya with two each and Spencer with one took them into the third with an 8 - 2 lead. For 8 minutes in the second period everyone worked hard. Hunter Barnard, Keyanna Kimewon, Amber Gallie, and Braydyn Root were solid protecting Blake and Jolina MacLean, Mercedes Roote, Aiden DeVries, Ethan Walsh, and Anthony Sarauz were all strong on the puck. Hunter and Jolina chipped in with two assists each while Anthony, Ethan, and Mercedes each contributed with one helper. Then the third period. It happens at every level, the tide turned. Arran-Elderslie scored four but Ray sandwiched in an insurance goal from Spencer for the win. Practice tomorrow at 11:30 @ The Plex. Next game is in Desboro on Saturday at 11am.
