Dunlop Fuels Novice BB in Close Game with Mitchell Meteors
Oct 23, 2009, Port Elgin Plex.  The Dunlop Fuels Novice BB team provided the crowd with another action packed game on Friday night.  The Storm showed good all-round strength starting with great goal-tending from Dex Wasylishyn.

The Mitchell Meteors took a while to find their legs in the first period and the Storm kept the puck in the Mitchell end-zone for most of the first 5 minutes of the game.  Sam Maksymyk put the first goal away with a tidy shot to the top right corner with assistance from Kiandra Martin who played a solid game.

With three minutes left in the first period Cam Lightfoot just missed a goal on a two-on-one play.  This was followed quickly by nice work from the face-off by Kiandra Martin who got the puck and fed it to Shawn Charlebois who made no mistake on his breakaway to score the second Storm goal, putting the score at 2-0 Storm at the end of the first period.

Mitchell came into the second period with a little more determination, with Zach Dow quickly scoring the Meteor’s first goal in a rout of the Storm defense.  This was followed by another goal with 4 minutes left to play as Mitchell’s Jacob Rauser managed to score on breakaway.

The Storm fought back with a good attempts from Ben Lalonde and Ethan Greig and another from Shawn Charlebois and Jack Kozelenko.  There was continuing good work along the boards from Austin Hegen and Jacob Condy who dug in to help the team.  The second period ended with the game tied at 2-2.

The third period was a nail-biter as each team created opportunities for themselves and went on the offense looking for a way to win the game.  For most of the period the Storm defense was like a wall with great showings by Hunter Cannon, Euan Mackintosh, Isaac Fewster and Cam Lightfoot.

The Storm increased the pressure and Sam Maksymyk had several more shots in the third that were stopped by the Mitchell goalie Quintan Duncan.  Dex Wasylyshyn stood alone on a couple of breakaways and saved a tricky shot to his left should on a breakaway by the Meteors.

By the last 2 minutes of the game, it still could have gone either way but the Mitchell Meteors scored two quick goals  to win the game 4-2.  It was fun to watch and the kids played well.
