Dunlop Fuels Novice BB host BCH in Southampton
Nov 7, 2009, Southampton.  The Saugeen Shores Dunlop Fuels Novice BB team hosted the strong BCH Icedogs team in Southampton and learned a bit about what it is like to play a big, physical team.  There was a lot of individual effort from the Storm players but a little more teamwork may have been needed to crack a team like this.

The first period was back and forth with some early chances created by Shawn Charlebois backed up by Ethan Greig.  With a 1:16 left in the first, there was a scramble in front of the Storm net and a loose puck was slammed home by BCH.  Ben Lalonde’s shot on goal would not go in and the score was 2-0 BCH at the end of the first.

The second period saw both teams battling for the lead.  Good effort was seen from Jacob Condy, Euan Mackintosh and Austin Hagen as they hussled for the puck and Cam Lightfoot continued to show solid play and great leadership in his defensive role.  Hunter Cannon also showed that he has what it takes as he lay down in front of the Storm net to block a BCH shot.

With three minutes left to play in the second, Kiandra Martin placed the puck perfectly on Jack Kozelenko’s stick as he waited patiently on the right side of the BCH net, and he made no mistake, one-timing it into the corner pocket to put the score at 2-1 BCH.

The third period did not go so well for the Storm despite excellent goal-tending from Dex Wasylishyn, as some of the bigger BCH players made their mark and routed the Storm defense.  BCH’s Sam Dupuis in particular played a strong game scoring three goals in the third period and four overall.

Notably in the third, the Storm scored their final goal of the game with some real determination and good follow-up.  Sam Maksymk got a great shot away that was saved, but the rebound was pounded home by Jack Kozelenko who raced Euan Mackintosh to the goal to put the loose puck away.

In the final tally, BCH won the game 7-2 but the Storm left the game knowing that they had tried their hardest.
