Dunlop Fuels/Home Hardware Novice BB Bring a Storm to Bayfield
Jan 17, 2010, Bayfield.    The Dunlop Fuels/Home Hardware Novice BB team put on a show in Bayfield and powered their way to a 10 -3 victory over the BCH Ice Dogs.  The victory was well-timed, giving the team a boost after a disappointing defeat to Kincardine the day before.

It was obvious from the first minute of the game that the Novice BB team had paid attention to coach Trevor Lalonde.  They hit the ice with fire in their eyes and a burning desire to win.

The Storm mounted a sustained attack on the Ice Dogs right out of the gate with early shots on the BCH goal from Cam Lightfoot, Ben Lalonde and Sam Maksymyk.  Captain Isaac Fewster stood out as he maintained a strong defense with Ethan Greig at his side.  Ethan’s play has been improving rapidly as he gets accustomed to his new defensive role.

With 4:15 left to play in the first period, Cam Lightfoot was rewarded for his relentless effort as he scored the first goal giving the Storm a great psychological boost.  Further highlights at the end of the first period included digger Jacob Condy sacrificing himself on defense, Shawn Charlebois with a great shot on a breakaway (just saved), Euan Mackintosh rushing back to help out and blocking a hard shot from BCH power forward Sam Dupuis, and Dex Wasylishyn standing on his head to save a clean shot on a BCH breakaway (Dex had an awesome game all around).

One minute into the second period, Jacob Condy showed his grit as he jammed the puck into the BCH net after an epic struggle in front.  BCH retaliated with a goal three minutes later putting the score at 2-1 Storm.  A minute later Shawn Charlebois continued his great game with a shot on net forcing a rebound which was picked up by Ben Lalonde and deftly raised into the net on a backhand to the right side.

The Storm picked up the pace and Shawn Charlebois showed the team how to do it again with a beautiful goal placed neatly in the top right corner of the BCH net.  A minute and a half later hardworking defenseman Hunter Cannon found a hole in the goalie’s pads and shoveled the puck in.  Austin Hagen kept the Storm on the offense with great work along the boards, doing whatever it took to get the puck into the BCH end zone.

Jack Kozelenko created another close call with an awesome move in front of the BCH net followed by a shot which trickled to the edge of the goal line but did not make it across. BCH scored one more goal in the period to bring the score to 5-2 Storm at the end of the second.

The Storm hit their stride in the third.  Kiandra Martin went in deep to rescue the puck from behind the BCH net and got a perfect pass out to Sam Maksymyk who took the present, put a stamp on it and mailed it express to the back of the BCH net.

Kiandra Martin did not stop there and on a feed from Cam Lightfoot nailed the gap on the left side of the net putting the Storm up 7-2.  Shawn Charlebois scored a short-handed goal with a one-timer on an excellent pass from Jacob Condy.  Isaac Fewster and Ben Lalonde (on a pass from Cam Lightfoot) each put in a goal in the final two minutes of the game to finish the game at with a convincing 10-3 win for the Storm.

Well done Storm, great focus and great effort.
