Dunlop Fuels/Home Hardware Novice BB take on Goderich
Nov 29, 2009, Goderich.    The Dunlop Fuels Novice BB team ended up losing to Goderich 9-3, mostly due to the Goderich onslaught in the first period which ended with Goderich ahead 5-1.

The Storm’s goal in the first period was masterminded by Jacob Condy who fought along the boards to get the puck up to Shawn Charlebois, then crossed to the front of the net to take the pass from Shawn and cram the puck into the net.

After the first period (which we will try not to mention again) the play was remarkably even with the Storm defending well and creating some chances for themselves in the Goderich end zone.

Shawn Charlebois had a great shot on net that narrowly missed.  Euan Mackintosh broke down the left side of the rink to lead a great offensive drive with Goderich saving themselves only by icing the puck.

Cam Lightfoot had a good second period playing solid defense and creating a nice opportunity for Jack Kozelenko in front of Goderich’s net.  Isaac Fewster was looking particularly strong, reading the puck well and leading the way, skillfully setting up the Storm breakouts from their end zone.

The second period highlighted the skills of Dex Wasylishyn who was kept on his toes the whole game and rose to the occasion again and again.  Ethan Greig and Austin Hagen proved again and again that size does not matter as they aggressively went for the puck.

Although the teams were evenly matched, Goderich managed two goals in the second period.

If the second period was even, the third period went to the Storm as they fought hard and regained the upper hand.  Shawn Charlebois again showcased his skills with some nice hustle resulting in a clean shot on goal that was just saved.

Ben Lalonde and Kiandra Martin got out their shovels and dug the puck out for Jack Kozelenko who narrowly missed a shot on goal.  Kiandra also got a shot away but couldn’t find an opening.

At the other end Hunter Cannon was solid on defense, saving a breakaway attempt, and clearing Goderich from the front of the net again and again.

With 10:21 to play in the third, Jacob Condy took a pass from Euan Mackintosh, channeled Wayne Gretzky, and left Goderich standing still with some dazzling stick-work and a sweet goal, low to the right side.

The highlight of the game went to Euan Mackintosh who got the worst of a collision with the Goderich captain and performed what can only be described as a helicopter barrel-roll in front of the Storm net, saved two shots in the process and then was kicked in the head from behind as he took out another Goderich player with the back of his helmet.  The Storm coaches looked on with trepidation, but there were no injuries sustained in this acrobatic maneuver.

Fans were treated to an exciting finish to the game. In the final minutes Cam Lightfoot showed the way again, just missing the net on a nice end-to-end rush.  Then Sam Maksymyk topped off a strong game nailing the top left corner of the Goderich net on assists from Shawn Charlebois and Jacob Condy.
