Dunlop Fuels Novice BB Storm takes on Walkerton in Season Opener
Oct 10, 2009, Walkerton.  The final score in this game was no indication of how well the Dunlop Fuels Novice BB team played against the Walkerton Capitals on October 10.  Even though the final score was 5-1 Walkerton, the Novice Storm team created many chances, working the puck hard in Walkerton’s zone.  Perhaps the biggest factor was Walkerton’s goalie Matthew Donnelly who made some incredible saves to keep the Storm outside.

The first period was evenly matched with two great shots on the Walkerton net from Cameron Lightfoot and Shawn Charlebois.  But Walkerton countered with a goal making the most of a Storm offensive changeover.  The first period ended at 1-0 Walkerton.

Leading into the second period, the Storm blew into the Walkerton end with several rushes, three shots on net by Sam Maksymyk and a great shot from Jacob Condy, who was absolutely robbed of a sure tally… but no goals.  With five minutes to play in the second period Walkerton scored again on a rebound despite excellent defense from Cam Lightfoot and Hunter Cannon.

At the end of the second period, Sam Maksymyk made no mistake on a breakaway and buried the puck in the top left corner ending the period with Walkerton up by a goal at 2-1.

Coming into the third period, the Storm looked hot with early plays by Ben Lalonde and Jacob Condy setting the pace fed by Ethan Greig’s good work assisting the plays.  Hunter Cannon scored a goal which was pulled back on an unfortunate offside call and Isaac Fewster was stonewalled on a great shot from the hash-marks.

Euan Mackintosh created some chances in the third along with a great play from Austin Hagen to Ben Lalonde in front of the net but the Walkerton defense held.

Despite the solid play and great defense from Jack Kozalenko and Isaac Fewster, luck seemed to be on Walkerton’s side as three more goals were scored on the Storm in the third – each one could have gone either way.

The Dunlop Fuels Storm Novice BB team looks well on their way to a great season this year.
