Two Storms Clash
The Allan’s Fireside
Grill/TD Canada Trust Atom L.L. #1 team met the Saugeen Shores Atom L.L. #2
team for a strongly contested match on Saturday, Jan. 31st in Port
Elgin. It was a well played game for Local League #1. The team looked very
strong in their play and kept the pressure on the other Storm team for a good
part of the thirty – five minutes. Local League #1 opened up their scoring in
the first period on an unassisted goal by Thomas MacDonald. The two teams would
begin the second period with L.L. #1 up by one. Both teams had scoring
opportunities throughout the second but only L.L. #2 was able to capitalize on them,
netting two goals. The third period saw L.L. #2 start out with a 2-1 lead over
L.L. #1. However, soon into the final period L.L. #1 found a way to even it up.
Thomas MacDonald cleared the defensive zone with a nice lead pass to Evan
Lamont who broke out and carried the puck in for a shot on net. MacDonald
followed up and buried the rebound, bringing the score to two all. Evan Lamont and Levi Klie were given credit for the assists. L.L. #1
continued to play well throughout the balance of the third and kept the
pressure on, passing the puck around and effectively clearing the defensive
zone. It looked like the two teams might have to call it a draw but with
just over one minute remaining L.L. #2 managed to squeak the game winner by
netminder, Cameron Plante. The final score was 3-2 for L.L. #2. Plante put in
another impressive performance making numerous quality stops during the game.
The Allan’s Fireside Grill/TD Canada Trust Atom L.L. #1 team’s next game is
Monday, Feb 2nd against TCDMHA.
