Atom L.L. #1 Wins Bronze Division at Plattsville Tournament
The Allan’s Fireside Grill/ TD Canada Trust Atom L.L.
#1 team travelled to Plattsville on Saturday, Dec. 13th to take part
in the Plattsville Pride Tournament. The day got off to a rough start as the
team lost their first game to the Hanover Falcons with a score of 5-1. The kids
just couldn’t seem to shake out the cobwebs and get anything going during this
initial outing. The Storm’s lone goal of the game came courtesy of J.D. Barnard
as he made a nice deke to send one past the Falcon goalie in the third period.
Cole McArthur provided the assist on the goal.
The Storm took some time to re-group and came back as a new team to face the Ancaster Senators. They came out strong against this very capable team and the play seesawed back and forth throughout the game. The two teams battled hard and the desire to win was evident on both sides. The first period ended with the score tied at one all. The second period saw the Senators increase their score by one as they netted a power play goal. The third period saw the tide turn as the Storm clawed their way back to even the score with a short-handed goal early in the third and then pull ahead with another goal late in the game. The Ancaster team pulled their goalie for the final two minutes in a last ditch effort to tie the game but the Storm hung on for the win. Evan Lamont, Bill Johnson and Thomas MacDonald provided the scoring during this game with assists going to Levi Klie, MacDonald and Lamont. This win sent the Storm to the Bronze Division finals for a game against the Dorchester Dragons.
The two teams put on a great show for the third and final game of the day. The Storm came out strong, scoring two unanswered goals in the first period. The Dragons worked hard and finally scored a goal mid-way through the second. The Storm responded with a goal of their own late in the period and went in to the third up by a score of 3-1. The Dragons were determined to get back on the scoreboard and they did with a goal early in the final period. The Storm was quick to douse that fire and add some insurance as they netted their fourth goal just twenty seconds later. Dorchester wasn’t out of the game yet though as they scored their third goal late in the game and then pulled their goalie in a desperate attempt to even things up and force a shootout. However, the Storm thwarted the valiant efforts of the Dragon team and hung on for a well deserved win. Scoring credits go to Thomas MacDonald with a hat trick and Evan Lamont with a single. Lamont also had two assists, MacDonald had one and Bill Johnson provided another one. The offensive lines were rounded out with firm contributions by J.D. Barnard, Owen MacKenzie and Jonah Neron. Solid defensive support was supplied by Carter Swanson, Jake Olinskie, McArthur and Klie. Storm goaltender, Cameron Plante, played extremely well between the pipes as he faced many shots throughout the three games. His confident and assertive style of play served his team well and he had more than one save worthy of the highlight reel. Congratulations to J. D. Barnard, Bill Johnson, Levi Klie, Evan Lamont, Thomas MacDonald, Owen McKenzie, Cole McArthur, Jonah Neron, Jake Olinskie, Carter Swanson and Cameron Plante on earning the Bronze Division title. Additional congratulations to J.D. Barnard for being selected as the tournament MVP for his team. Next up for the Allan’s Fireside Grill/ TD Canada Trust Atom L.L. #1 team is a game against Arran-Elderslie on Friday night, Dec. 19
th at the Plex.
