BDO Dunwoody Atoms lose consolation final in Strathroy
The BDO Dunwoody Atoms travelled to Strathroy this past weekend to compete in the annual SDMHA Olympics.  The boys played four games but in the end lost in the consolation final.

The team began play on Friday night against West London.  The Atoms came out firing with three unanswered goals scored in the first period.  Tristan Rajendra scored first on an assist from Paul Leger.  Harrison Alvarez scored the next two goals for the Storm with help from Hayden Duplantis and Brendan Morano.  Strong defensive play by Tyler Donaldson and Chris Gilbert helped to keep the puck out of our end.  London added a single in the second before Saugeen Shores closed out the scoring in the third when Michael Fiegehen scored unassisted.

The second game came early Saturday morning with our next opponent Petrolia.  Once again the boys started off strong building up a 3-0 lead midway through the first.  Scoring for the Storm were Eric Langridge with two goals on assists by Alvarez, and Michael Bohnert adding a single on an unassisted play.  The Oilers came back scoring two goals in the second to bring the score to 3-2.  It became a seesaw battle after that as the teams ended up 5-5 after regulation.  Scoring in the third was Langridge, earning a hatrick, and Alvarez, who also assisted on Langridge’s goal.  Two minutes into overtime, Petrolia scored on a breakaway to give them the win.

In the third game, the Storm played against the home club, Strathroy Rockets.  The boys had trouble getting  going and were down 2-0 by the end of the 1st and 4-0 by the opening minutes of the third.  Jack Flarity stopped numerous shots for the team as the Rockets were firing on all cylinders.  The Storm kept from getting shut out on a goal by Langridge in the third on a pass from Morano.

Because of the point system in the tournament, 3 points for a win and 1 point for an overtime loss, the boys earned the right to play in the consolation final on Sunday morning against Mooretown.  The team struggled from the start and lost by a score of 9-1.  Scoring the lone goal for Saugeen Shores was Alvarez on a diving assist from Duplantis.

Next up for the Atoms are two home games this weekend at the Plex.    Written By Christine Flarity
