BDO Dunwoody Atoms in 1st tournament of season
The BDO Dunwoody Atoms played in their first tournament over the weekend in Owen Sound.  The boys played tough but in the end came away with a 0-2-1 record.

The first game on Friday afternoon saw the team matched up against St. Mary’s.  The opponent was on the scoreboard first in the middle of the opening period but Saugeen Shores tied it up 3 minutes later on a goal by Michael Fiegehen and assisted by Hayden Duplantis.  The second period proved to be more difficult as St. Mary’s scored 3 unanswered goals.  In the final period, 2 more goals were scored by the opposition with the final goal in the game going to Paul Leger assisted by Harrison Alvarez and Fiegehen.  Michael Fiegehen was named MVP of the game for Saugeen Shores in the 6-2 loss.

The second game was played early Saturday morning against Noble King.  Saugeen Shores scored first as Tristan Rajendra scored his first goal of the tournament with assists from Brendan Morano and Eric Langridge.  Rajendra added a second goal in the second period with assists from Morano and Fiegehen before Noble King got on the board.  Leger scored the third goal for the boys on an assist by Tyler Donaldson.   With the score 3-2 in the third, Saugeen Shores added a fourth on a goal by Donaldson assisted by Morano and Leger.  With under a minute to play, Noble King pulled their goalie in favour of the extra attacker which paid off as the score became 4-3.  Then when the time clock failed to start, Noble King took advantage of the added time and scored to end the game in a 4-4 tie.  Brendan Morano was named MVP of the game for Saugeen Shores.

The third game was played Saturday afternoon against Welland and the squad needed a win in order to enter the finals on Sunday.  The boys came out hard right from the opening faceoff but it was Welland who scored first.  The second period remained scoreless thanks to a diving glove save by Jack Flarity and strong defensive plays by Chris Gilbert and Mike Bohnert.  Saugeen Shores made it 1-1 on an unassisted charge by Eric Langridge.  Four minutes later, Tristan Rajendra scored to give the Atoms the lead on assists by Morano and Donaldson.  But with four minutes to go, Welland was awarded a penalty shot after a player gloved the puck in the crease and was able to put one past Flarity.  Needing a win to move on, Saugeen Shores pulled their goalie in an attempt to break the tie.  However, Welland added an empty netter to leave the score at 3-2.  Jack Flarity earned the MVP for Saugeen Shores in their final game of the tournament.
