January 11- 14th, the Queens Bar Atom AE travelled to Niagara for the International Silver Stick finals, having earned the spot to play after winning regionals back in November.



Game 1 found the Storm up against Denver Colorado Elite Evolution. After an intense two and a half periods which saw action in both ends, the Storm found themselves down 4-3. With a minute left Storm pulled their goalie, but Colorado was ready and slapped one down for an empty netter resulting in 5-3 loss for the Storm. But the Storm were just finding their stride!

Game 2 vs Grand Rapids Michigan- the Storm were ready to go! #7 E. Jackson, started the scoring off quickly followed by #5 B.Palinsky. Goalie H. Van Geel made some awesome saves resulting in a 5-2 win for the Storm.

Game 3 had the Storm up against St,Mary’s Rock, known to be a strong Ontario team.  Strom needed to win this game in order to advance to the Tier 1 side of the finals going forward. Excellent defensive play by #9, M. Lettau, #6, S. Cipolletti-Dyke and #4 R. Foster kept St. Mary’s at bay and midway through the 2nd , no goals yet for either team. Finally with 2 minutes left in the 2nd, #8, B. Hall was able to slap one past the St. Mary’s goalie. 3rd period was intense with forwards, #19, Z. Lawrence, #18, R. Phillips and #16, O. Sheehan digging hard in the St. Mary’s end. Shut out for goalie T. Little and the Storm moved on to the quarter finals.

Quarter finals found the boys up against the Ayr Flames. Forwards #15, M. Spry, #12 B. McKeough and #11 S. Hall started off the game, playing hard keeping the action in the Ayr end. The game quickly turned in to a battle of defense and after 3 periods tied at 0-0 the Storm were going to a shootout in overtime.  #5 B. Palinsky was able to get one past the Ayr goalie, and another shut out for Storm goalie T. Little. Storm advanced to the semi finals!

The semi finals had the Storm up against Barrie Colts Major Atom. The boys knew they had a hard game ahead of them. They fought hard and were able to hold the Colts off til about midway through the second. Two quick goals by the strong Barrie team set the pace for the rest of the game. The boys battled hard but lost to the Colts.

Parents and coaches couldn’t be more proud of the boys!  They played their hearts out and were able to compete with the best of the best. They truly are a team capable of much success.
