The Saugeen Shores Storm Atom AE (sponsored
by Queen’s Bar and Grill) are Silver Stick Champions! A dramatic 2-1 win in
overtime gave the Storm the championship in the 15th annual Silver
Stick Regional Qualifer in South Huron Nov 24-26.
The Atom AE had a tough start to the tournament losing game one to the Napanee Stars, but the Storm were just warming up! Game two was a close one with the Storm edging out Mt Brydges 2-1. Game three was a head to head battle with Listowel which saw the Storm come out on top again 4-2, advancing them to the semi finals.
The Storm took the ice against past rivals, the Strathroy Jr Rockets in the semis which saw the Storm take an early lead which they held up right til the end in a 3-1 finish, sending the boys onto the Finals.
The championship game found the Storm facing off against the Napanee Stars. This time the Storm were ready for them! After a dramatic 3 periods of play which saw both teams tied 1-1, we were heading for overtime. After an intense 8 mins 20 seconds of nail biting overtime the Storm were able to slide one past the Napanee goalie clinching the title. The Storm Atom AE team are now fortunate enough to advance to the International Silver Stick finals in Pelham, ON in January 2018.
This past weekend was truly a team effort. Parents and coaches couldn’t be more proud and we look forward to representing our town at the Internationals. Big thank you to our sponsor, Queens Bar and Grill.
