Saugeen Shores Atom AE Playoffs Underway
Saugeen shores atom AE wrapped up their regular season games this past Saturday after being defeated by BCH ice dogs AE on home ice with a 3-2 loss.  This was a make up game for one that was cancelled due to severe weather earlier in the month.  This was the last game of our regular season and ended our bumpy ride to an otherwise great regular season, tallying up 9wins-5losses-2ties.

This was enough to maintain our first place in standings, tied with Mitchell Meteors and Zurich Thunder.  Both Saugeen shores atom AE and Mitchell Meteors AE clenched  a buy for first round of play offs, while Zurich continued on to playoffs in their own Rep division. Having no games scheduled over the Christmas holidays, the storms atom AE team practiced, and waited in anticipation for the first round of playoffs between Kincardine and Minto to conclude.

Playoffs for the Storm began this evening facing...the Kincardine Kinucks on away ice at the Davidson Center in Kincardine where the best of 5 series began.   Saugeen Shores Storm AE team showed up to tonight's game with a full roster that appeared to be determined and ready for action.  Just 48 seconds after puck drop, Hunter Palinsky managed to weave his way through the crowded ice surface and snatched up a beautiful goal with the help of wingers Brock and Ozzie each getting an assist on the play.  Just 15 seconds later Kincardine tied it up at 1-1.  "Not today junior" Brandon Embro made it 2-1 getting an unassisted goal just 41 seconds later.  Battling continued on both ends for the remainder of the first and through out the second period.  Notable mentions go the the storms 4 defence lineup who managed to keep the puck out of our end for the majority of these periods.  Some chances were created, but goaltending on both ends was solid, especially Storms Kelvin Gottschalk who made some killer saves.

Third period included a great penalty kill where the Storm managed to not just hold off the Kinucks while suffering a two man deficit, but also got a spectacular short handed goal.  Great job Ozzie! Up by two, but the Storm didn't back down.  Another chance was created, and Charlie Bennett capitalized on the opportunity in Front of the crowded Kinucks net making it 4-1.  Nearing the end of the 10-15-15 game, the storm gave up a goal at roughly the 3 minute remaining mark where the score remained at 4-2 in favour of the storm.

The next game in this series is on Saturday with a 1:15pm puck drop at the Plex in Port Elgin.  Come cheer the Saugeen Shores Atom AE team on! Storm atom AE is sponsored by Queens Bar and grill, in Port Elgin.
