Atom AE at the Chris Knott Tournament
Saugeen Shores Atom AE falls short on 3 way tie in points during this weekend Chris Knott tournament.

It was another fun filled weekend at the local rink in Saugeen shores where our home Center hosted the 21st annual Chris Knott Memorial Tournament. This years tournament included novice B, peewee B, and Atom AE teams.  Rounding out the atom AE lineup included Lincoln Blades, Paris Wolfpack, Kincardine Kinucks our Saugeen Shores Storm

Play began Friday afternoon where our first match up began against our neighbouring Kincardine Kinucks rivals. Just 42 seconds after puck drop Brandon Embro wired one between the opposing orange and white posts, setting the tone for remainder of the game. One more goal was had by the storms Hunter Palinsky just into the third period.  Kinucks rallied back and managed to tie up the match just before game end forcing overtime.  Three on three hockey is the format for the overtime periods for this venue, where the Storm dominated over the Kinucks.  Ozzie Alpaugh managed to squeak one in under orange and whites pads which sealed the deal in our first game ending in a 3-2 victory over Kincardine.  As expected, the game was intense and competitive.

Game two began early Saturday morning where Saugeen shores hosted the Lincoln blades at the Plex for the game opener for the day.  Appearing as the Bruins in black and yellow the blades came out strong.  These two teams both keen to earn a victory played hard battling back and forth from end to end.  Goals were had by storms Ozzie Alpaugh and Brandon Embro where the score was at a dead heat at the end of the third forcing overtime once again.  Athough play seemed to be dominated by the storm, the blades capitalized in game play defeating the Storm 3-2 in overtime.   Both teams were evenly matched, and the win could have went either way.

Game three commenced Saturday afternoon where the Storm hosted Paris Wolfpack.  Although the Wolfpack put forth a strong effort, they were unable to peg a goal onto the board, offering up a shutout to storms goaltender Colby Lettau.  On the game sheet included storms goals had by Brandon Embro, Brock Dickson, Charlie Bennett, and Brodie Palinsky, tallying up a 4-0 win over the Wolfpack.  Great game boys!

Drama sets in shortly after our third game where a three way tie for points in standings is created when the game between Lincoln and Kincardine concludes.  Determination of advancing teams is dependant on a goals for/against rule.  Unfortunately going to a goals for tie breaker left Saugeen shores storm just 1 goal shy of advancing to the final game.. Kincardine came out on top of the final game defeating the Lincoln blades 4-3.  We will taking on our kincardine rivals this tuesday at 6:00pm at the Plex for a regular season match up.

This years Chris's knott tournament included a number of storm Atom AE Players competing in the annual skills competition including fastest skater, stick handling competition, accuracy shooting and hardest shot.  This is always a fun event where team mates come out and cheer on their comrades.  Taking a trophy for hardest shot was Brandon Embro with a blistering 75km/h clapper.  Nicely done.

No time to rest after a hockey filled weekend as Tuesday and Thursday night games are just around the corner.  Beginning Friday, another fun filled tournament commences where Saugeen Shores Storm AE will be travelling to Collingwood for some more hockey action.  Puck drop for the first game of the tourney is Friday at 10:05am at the Eddie Bush Arena in Collingwood against Dorchester.  Go storm!
