Crabby Joe's Begin Provincial Qualifiers
Crabby began its five game Provincial Qualifying round robin on Wednesday 12th February in Southampton.

Their opponent was the Walkerton Capitals C team who handed Crabby their only league game defeat to date, a 7 – 4 drubbing. Needless to say the Home team were not taking this game lightly.  Also on the Coach’s mind was how the players would respond after the disheartening OT loss 3 days earlier in the Silver Stick Tournament. Girls are much stronger than boys in their social interaction, and the atmosphere in the dressing room before the game said it all.  What happened in the past was history and they were ready to move forward.

From the drop of the puck Crabby’s were hot. The first period ended with 3 goals by Francesca Alpajaro, Skyler Pomroy, and Caelan Macdonald. The dominance continued throughout the next period with another three goals, Francesca with her second, and Sky two more for her hattrick.

The Walkerton players were frustrated. The times that they did try to mount an attack, the defence of Emily Russett, Lily VanGeel, Maddy Leger, and Lauren Macdonald were a Wall. And Goalie Ashley Shields maintained her attention and played every shot in full control.

The third period mimic’d the first two. Another three goals, two for Sky and one by Caelan.  Natalie Brown and Sky were each credited with an assist and Caelan chipped in with three for a very productive night. The way everyone was touching the puck probably everyone’s name should have appeared on the scoresheet. Make the final 9 – 0.

In a game with so much offence, the Digger was presented to one of the Wall for her complete all-around game – Emily Russett.

Two games this weekend to end the regular season leading up to the following weekend’s Walter Gretzky Tournament in Brantford.
