Crabby Wins In A Loss
Crabby Joe’s Atom C Girls lost to the GreyHighland’s Shooting Stars 3 – 2 in Markdale Sunday afternoon.  The winning goal came with under five minutes remaining in the game but Crabby never gave up until the final buzzer.

Due to the school break we just managed to ice a lineup. Thanks to those parents who were able to delay their departure until after the game. Even though we had enough players to start, our team sweaters were still enroute at game time. We thank Markdale for providing us a loan for the first period until our sweaters found their way. More importantly an added player came with their arrival.

Crabby’s six skaters played an awesome first period but found themselves down a goal entering the second. The chances were there but the GreyHighlands goalie was equally awesome and kept her net empty.

Switching into their own colours and adding one more player in the second gave Crabby’s  more chance to share breathing spells.  Francesca Alpajaro tied it up from Olivia Hall mid-way through the period and the teams went into the third tied at one.  Goalies Ashley Shields and Miranda Campbell were stellar but it was GreyHighlands who broke the deadlock at the 7:53 mark. Another one found the net at 4:42 but Crabby was not done.  Defenceman Emily Russett head-manned the puck to Olivia who feathered it through to Francesca who broke in and brought her team within one with a short-handed goal at 1:59.

With Ashley on the bench and Crabby’s still serving a penalty, Crabby Joe’s gave it their best shot but couldn’t send the game into OT.  Final 3 – 2.   With two novice age girls and a first year hockey player in their reduced lineup this performance reinforced that the development program is meeting its objective. And they all had fun and smiles at the end of the game. Great work Girls.

Hugs to Ashley Shields, Olivia Hall, Emma Nason, Emily Russett, Lily VanGeel, Natalie Brown, Kennedy Stauffer, and Francesca Alpajaro.

Both of these teams have qualified for the Provincial Championships in Mississauga 11 – 13 April and will be competing in their league year-end tournament at the end of this month hosted by Saugeen Shores.
