Lucknow-Wingham visited Saugeen Shores on Sunday 5th
Jan only trailing Crabby Joe’s by a single point. The visitors were hungry and Ashley
Shields was forced to make a superb save on a breakaway off the opening faceoff. Ashley continued to stay focused while her
counterpart was keeping the Crabby shooters at bay. But with just over a minute
left in the period Francesca Alpajaro broke the scoreless deadlock.
The second again started in favour of the visitors as they tied the game on a nice goal by their sharpshooter Erica Murray in the first shift of the period. Lucknow scored nine goals in their previous game the day before so the Saugeen Shores players needed to start capitalizing on their chances. And score they did. Skyler Pomroy with three, Francesca with two, Kennedy Stauffer, and Caelan Macdonald one each with Lucknow only beating Ashley twice more accounting for ten goals being registered in the high scoring period by both teams.
Crabby’s kept up the pressure in the third with Francesca potting two more capping a five goal game, and Skyler and Caelan one each. Ashley held the visitors to one making the final 12 – 4. Assists in the game were credited to Francesca, Kennedy, and Lily Van Geel with two each and Sky, Caelan, Emma Nason, Natalie Brown, and Olivia Hall with one each. Emily Russett and Maddy Leger were kept off the scoresheet but contributed with a strong defensive game.
