Mother Nature forced a cancellation of Crabby’s game in Wingham on Saturday but the saved
energy was released on the Kincardine Kinucks on Sunday at Southampton. Their 8 – 1 win made Crabby a Happy Grinch.
The game’s opening goal by Francesca Alpajara from Olivia Hall in just 15 seconds set the fast pace to come, yet it took until 30 seconds left in the period for Francesca to pot the second goal assisted by Lily Van Geel. The second period saw passing and rushes that resulted in Crabby Joe’s going up 5 – 0. Caelan Macdonald seemed to own the puck but she could only find the scoresheet on an assist on Olivia’s goal along with Kennedy Stauffer. Skyler Pomroy netted two with the first assisted by Francesca and her second from her patented wrist shot just under the cross bar.
The third period continued with D to D passing, headmanning the puck and impressive individual skills. Kennedy opened the period with a pretty goal assisted by Olivia and Emma Nason banged in a rebound from a hard shot by Sky. Kincardine broke Ashley’s shutout bid with a breakaway goal that just found the inside of the post on a nice deke by Heidi Allen. Sky received her hattrick on a strong individual effort with 3 minutes remaining. Olivia Hall continues to read the play beyond her years. She received the Digger Award for her forechecking, backchecking, and strong offensive game. Sabra Cannon, Emily Russett, and Natalie Brown were also strong on the puck every shift but were unlucky in not adding to their points total.
