Saugeen Shores Crabby Joe’s young age almost caught up with them Saturday afternoon in Mildmay against a much older South Bruce Atom C team. With only 9 players, three being novice age, and only one ten year old in the lineup, Crabby’s managed to squeak out a 5 – 4 victory.
As has happened in all their games except one this season, Crabby Joe’s fell behind mid-way into the opening period but Olivia Hall tied it up nearing the end of the first. The scoresheet would indicate that it was a one-girl highlight show by Skyler Pomroy. Four goals off #2’s stick yet the Mildmay’s goalie did not have a bad game. She was awesome. It was a tie game with 1.50 remaining when Lily VanGeel set up Sky with the winner. Other assists in the game were Sky and Maddy Linklater with one each and Olivia with two helpers. How big was the third period save by our Ashley Shields on the only breakaway she faced in the whole game?! Kudos to our defence Lauren Macdonald, Emily Russett, and Lily VanGeel and the checking of Natalie Brown, Olivia Hall, and Maddy Linklater. Most encouraging is the steady improvement in our first year player Emma Nason. For her steady play Lauren donned the Digger Award with honourable mention to Maddy. Considering Maddy’s regular position is defence, she played a great game up front.
Game Sunday at the Plex, 1pm vs the Walkerton Atom C’s.
