Pee Wee LL come home with a win for first game of the year

Article submitted by Tamri Ashton

PeeWee LL #1 had their first game of the season in Lion’s Head against team Bruce Peninsula on Saturday Oct. 22nd.

With just under a month of practice 17 players skated to their first victory and shut out for goalie Christian Doubt.  The game started with the Storm dominating in the first period.  With only 2 minutes left in the period Braeden Ashton had a shot on net with Emma VanHaelemeesch being ready for the rebound.  A quick shot took Lion’s Head goalie by surprise and the 1st goal scored.  The second period produced a goal 3 ½ mins into the game.  This time it was VanHaelemeesch assisting and Ashton scoring.  Well into the 2nd Dylan Pomroy had a great chance and was alone from the blue line in.  On the rebound he scored the 3rd goal.  With 3 plus minutes left in the period, Korey Thomas scored goal #4.  It wasn’t long into the 3rd period that Brayden Horseman had a break away with 3 Lion’s Head players racing behind him to catch up.  Goal #5 was scored.  Less than 2 minutes later Ashton scored again with a nice pass from VanHaelemeesch for goal 6.    Goals 7 and 8 were scored by Horseman only 30 secs apart.  The defense lines of Nolan Dereski and Jake Olinskie and Wes Johnson and Brett Kinden kept the Lion’s Head team at bay.  Dereski and Johnson both had opportunities at shooting on net.  Players Ken Bingham, Cody Flett, Bill Johnson, Wade Kewageshig, Owen Mackenzie, and River Roote continually worked hard out on the ice and their plays contributed to the victory for the team.  Goalie Cam Plante looks forward to the team’s next game Oct. 29th  in Southampton.   We missed Darien Roote and JD Barnard, but will be full squad Saturday at 1:15.  Go Storm go.
