March Came in Like a Lion for Pee Wees at Chris Knott tourny!
Pee Wee Local storm came in on fire this weekend playing up in the AE division in the annual Chris Knott Memorial tournament here in Saugeen Shores.  The weekend was full of oddities, with Mother Nature bringing the worst of the worst for organizers but the real winners proved to be those folks who remained unruffled and rolled with the punches to put on a great weekend regardless of conditions.

Pee Wee Team, under leadership of Andy Barnard showed they have what it takes to be contenders as they faced Paris Friday night in South.  Consider this the reader's digest version as I don't have the scoresheets in front of me to do differently so.........consider it CBC at it's worst...

The score of 5-2 for the opposition didn't really reflect the action on the ice which was played like a 1 goal game throughout 3 periods of play.  Defenceman Nolan Dereski started the scoring with a deflected shot low along the ice which got things rocking, with Wade Kewageshig making it a deuce with a nice goal to keep the team in the hunt.  Christian Doubt in net did a fantastic job keeping the team at a 5 goal cap.  Dressing rooms says???.....Fantastic game, but do it even better tomorrow!  Congrats to player of the game Nolan D.

So, now it's tomorrow.......power outage but thank goodness for the Plex Generator, windup clocks and keen hockey families and organizers!  Coffee made at 7:30 am, volunteers there saving the day, coordinators madly making phone calls and team volunteers there to take on clock/scoresheet duties as planned.  Exciting it was with Storm vs Petrolia.  It was a hardfought game through the 1st and 2nd periods.  Midway through the 3rd, Petrolia managed to find the back of net against a strong Cameron Plante to make it 1-0.  With two minutes left, in attempt to tie up the game, Cam was pulled for the xtra attacker but Team Storm, no matter how much pressure they put on, couldn't beat the fine goal tender for Petrolia.  Locker talk says it was a WIN for Storm no matter the score.  Fantastic effort by all. Congrats to player of the game Wes Johnson!

Jump now to 3:00 pm.......post Petrolia vs. Paris... Petrolia was ahead 1-0 through the first half of the game but Paris somehow found a way to find the back of the net two times to win 2-1.  So back to centre ice for the rubber match between Saugeen Shores and Petrolia to see who goes to Paris for the gold.....

6:00 pm, Saugeen Shores, the rematch vs. Petrolia.  As soon as the puck drops both teams with Christian Doubt staying strong between the pipes keeping Storm in the game.  A quarter into the first Emma VanHaelemeesch went down left wing and let a bullet goal off the post and in it went to put Storm ahead 1-0.  Later after that, as Petrolia headed down into our zone and got into the corner, the winger let a wicked pass go in front of the net and the centreman buried home the rebound to make it a tie game at 1.  Without stats in front of us at this time, end result was a resounding 3-2 win for Storm to take us to Sunday play at the PLEX at full power.  Congrats to Player of the Game Emma Vanhaelemeesch!

Sunday:
Storm vs. Paris.  Strong match indeed and a storm team that did not give up against a resounding Paris team who clearly wanted to go home with the gold.  Player of the game hands down, goalie Cameron Plante.  A team of 17 on the ice however who didn't give up and went home with a silver medal.  Congratulations Storm for a fantastic effort.  You made yourselves proud.......

Playoffs continue - Tuesday evening 6:30 in South.  Stay tuned and Go Storm!!
