Dunlop Fuels and Rintoul’s Pool
and Spas Atom Girls were downed 5 to 2 in a spine chilling game against
Normanby on Sunday October 31st.
For Halloween, the Atom Girls had their full complement of 18 players suited up to face the Normanby team. Out for their first game of the season and showing good hustle and team work were Teena-Marie Ritchie, Drew Besito and Victoria Matheson. Sharing the goalie duties again were Tiffany Kewageshig and Alyssa Trumbley with Kewageshig starting in net.
Normanby was first on the scoreboard around the halfway mark of the first period with #8 scoring her first of three in the game. Minutes later, Tori Janes responded by slipping the puck inside the far post, scoring her first goal of the game to make it one apiece.
Saugeen Shores demonstrated great team work throughout the remainder of the game. Forward line Ritchie, Rachel Kelly and Carly Acton kept offensive pressure in the Normanby zone. Janes, Jamie Miller and Besito continued to play strong with Besito and Janes combining to score the Storm’s second goal. Kaitlin Ferguson, Victoria Sutter-Lammie and Amber Hou followed up with some good scoring chances including a hard shot on net by Hou at the 10 minute mark of the third.
Solid defence by Ainsley Harron, Lauren McDonald, Sasha Morano, Marley Scott, Eve Martin and Janelle Fowler kept the Storm in the game until the dying seconds of the third.
Despite strong offensive and defensive play by all members of the Storm, Normanby was able to outscore Saugeen Shores 5 to 2 to pull off the win.
Saugeen Shores Atom girls play Desboro next on November 3rd in their first away game of the season.
