A Loss and a Tie!
“CAW Bantams Drop Home Opener; Tie Listowel in first road game of season”

The Saugeen Shores CAW  Bantam Rep team hosted Walkerton in their home opener on October 18, 2008 and lost a close game by a score of 4-3.

 

Both teams started off a little hesitant in their first contest of the season, however the tempo of the action soon picked up with both sides playing an open offense style of game. Walkerton opened the scoring at 9:37 of the first period on a goal by Kurtis Inglis, assisted by Justin Reinhart. The Storm scored the equalizer with only 1.5 seconds remaining in the period on a goal by Tyler D’Angelo with assists to Tom Godwin and Brady Goreski.

 

Goaltenders (Jeremy McMillan for the Storm and Cole Dales) turned away plenty of shots as both teams kept pushing for the go ahead marker. Similar to the first period, Walkerton potted a go-ahead marker, with Inglis picking up his 2nd of the game with help from Zach Petteplace and Pat Walsh. The Storm continued to work hard and were rewarded, again in the dying seconds of the period with Zach Walker scoring the equalizer on a set up from Ian MacKay and Godwin.

 

The 3rd period featured end to end action for the entire 15 minutes. Walker picked up his 2nd tally of the night just :15 seconds into the period with assists to Greg McCulloch and Dan Kimewon for their first lead of the game. Walkerton replied less than 2 minutes later to tie the game. Petteplace dented the twine this time on a pass from Wendall Cameron. Cameron fired what would turn out to be the game winner at the 10:31 mark with assists to Petteplace and Eric Elliott. Both teams gave it their all for the final 10 minutes of the game, with the Storm pressing for the tie, however Walkerton held on for the victory.

 

 

The Storm hit the road traveling to Listowel for their second game of the season on Oct. 19th. From the drop of the puck, this contest featured an aggressive style of play by both teams, with everyone giving it their all.

 

Every shift featured solid hitting, aggressive offense and solid defense with both teams eager to take the lead. The first period ended in gooseeggs as goalies (Brett McCulloch for the Storm andRyan Hak for Listowel) put in stellar performances turning away all attempts.The home squad finally found a way to beat McCulloch with 4:17 left on the clock in the 2nd on a goal by Ben Vekley. The teams continued to pound each other for the remainder of the contest, and with only :23 seconds remaining in the game, the Storm pulled their goalie in favour of the extra attacker and potted the tying goal. Dalton Reany blasted a shot from the point on a set up from Dan Kimewon and Russ MacMillan. Each team truly earned a hard fought point in this match.

 

 

 

The Storm travel host Mitchell at 6:15 pm at the Plex on Saturday, Oct. 25th and then travel to Goderich on the 26th for a 4 pm game, and then host Mildmay at Southampton on the Wed. Oct. 29th at 8 pm. Go Storm!
