The CAW Bantam Storm earn 6-6 tie against Walkerton.
January 6th, 2009, Southampton Coliseum

The Saugeen Shores CAW  Bantam Rep team hosted Walkerton for an exhibition game on January 6, 2009 at the Southampton Coliseum and earned a 6-6 draw.

 

The Storm struck first as Zach Walker roofed a wrist shot on a breakaway at 8:29 of the first period. Cody Coulson gave the Storm a 2 goal lead with assists to Tyler D’Angelo and Ian MacKay at the 4:57 mark. With only1:13 left on the clock in the first, Tyler Essiembre blasted a slapshot off the post to give the home team a 3-0 lead.

 

Walkerton finally found a way to beat Storm goaltender (Brett McCulloch) at the 10:30 mark of the second on goal by Zach Petteplace, assisted by Patrick Walsh and Wendel Cameron. The Storm roared back just :30 seconds later with Ian MacKay blasting a one-timer on a perfect pass from by Jacob Roote. Less than 3 minutes later Mike Deboer gave the home squad a 4 goal lead on a set-up from Russ MacMillan. Walkerton replied at the 4:03 mark on an unassisted goal by Wendel Cameron. The Storm continued to work hard and were rewarded in kind at the 3:27 mark with Tyler D’Angelo notching one on a pass from Brady Caley. At the end of the 2nd frame the score was Storm 6, Walkerton 2.

 

 

The tide turned in the 3rd period as Walkerton tallied four consecutive goals while the Storm just couldn’t buy a bounce in a fast paced and aggressive display of skill and talent. Both teams gave it their all for the final 15 minute frame, with the Storm pressing for the winner, however the game ended knotted at 6 goals apiece. Goalscorers for Walkerton were Wendel Cameron, Zach Petteplace, Patrick Walsh and Eric Elliott.

 

 

The Storm hit the road traveling to Listowel on January 11th, and are waiting for their playoff schedule as you read this story.
