The Saugeen Shores U15 girls sponsored by the Port Elgin and District Lions Club travelled to Owen Sound for the Owen Sound Ice Hawks Northern Lights Ladies Classic.
The girls easily won the first game Friday night, and then came back for an early 7:15am Saturday morning winning again. Saturday afternoon saw another strong game from the entire group with another win. The final game Saturday saw the girls play the host team from Owen Sound in a tight game, with the girls scoring the game winning goal late in the third period.
On Sunday the team came out strong in the semi-final game, winning and sending them to the final. The final against Collingwood saw the girls jump out to an early lead only to have Collingwood fight back making it close. The team regrouped in the third and finished off the game with a flourish of goals winning the gold medal.
The girls showed excellent teamwork all weekend long. The team’s ability to pass the puck and get everyone involved proved to be a strong point, the offence was superb and the defense smothering. Congratulations go to the whole team effort and goaltender Lacey earning four shutouts in six games.
Thanks to coach Red for letting the players relax at her house after the early Saturday morning. Thanks to the coaching staff of Shawn, Bryanna and Gord for an excellent weekend.
