The Ziegler Castle Lumber Saugeen Shores Peewee HL girls’
team is going to Ottawa! The team
entered the Hockey on the Hill Contest for a chance to play in the Bell Capital
Cup Canada 150 Division and they won. To
win the contest the team entered a video and essay describing why they were
deserving to represent the Southern Ontario region at the tournament. Click on the YouTube link below to see the teams’
video entry. The team entered the poem
below as a twist to the essay portion.
The prize package includes playing one of the tournament games at the
Canada 150 Rink on parliament hill.
The Saugeen Shores Hockey Poem
We are a hockey team from Saugeen Shores,
We play Peewee house league girls.
Hockey is the sport we love to play,
Whenever we play hockey it’s a great day.
Proud Canadians we very much are,
Hoping to meet Canadian teams from afar.
Playing in the Ottawa International Hockey Festival we hope to do,
Chosen to represent southern Ontario region would be so cool too.
Our team from Saugeen Shores is called the Storm,
With lots of practice we will be in good form.
Our player of the game wears a bright orange vest,
It doesn’t matter if we win having fun is what’s best.
The sound the skate blades make as we carve the ice,
Gives us a thrill each time it sounds so nice.
Passes, wrists shots, slap shots we can do much more,
If the coach would let us we would play until our feet were sore.
Hockey is the favourite sport in this country we love,
We can’t imagine any sport that will ever rise above.
Canada is one hundred and fifty years old this year,
The country is getting better with age it is clear.
The country and the players are not perfect it is true,
Working hard to improve is what we are striving to do.
Playing a hockey game on parliament hill,
To be honest would be an absolute thrill.
