The Midget B Storm Win Regional Silver Stick Opener
The Saugeen Shores Storm Midget B Team, sponsored by Boston Pizza in Port Elgin, won their opening game at the Wingham Regional Silver Stick this past Sunday afternoon.  The Storm defeated the Hanover Falcons 3-1 to start the tournament as they will face Tavistock this Thursday at 9:00 PM back in Wingham.

After settling for 2nd place in last year's Sliver Stick Regional there are 12 returning players this year looking forward to another shot at Tavistock, this Thursday night, who beat them in last year's final game with an overtime score of 3-2.  To ensure another trip to the final beating Tavistock isn't the only challenge.  This year's 11 team draw will see 8 teams fighting for a 3rd spot in the Quarter-Finals while 3 teams will receive a bye based on the result of their first 2 games.  Therefore, beating Hanover was a huge stride in the right direction.
The Falcons started the game off strong by registering 8 shots on net before the Storm had their first, but Eric Charlebois made it count when he buried it in the back of the net (thanks to two well timed passes from Trevor Donaldson and Cody Flett. Eric Charlebois netted his second of the period due to a strong offensive zone face off win. The goal was setup by Nick Sutter and Troy Courneyea. The Storm carried a 2-0 lead into the 2nd period even though being out shot 11-5 by Hanover. Nick Sutter added to the lead with a power play goal on a cross ice pass trough the slot from Charlebois. Hanover did manage to put one on the board as the Storm did their best to hold down the fort on a 5 on 3 penalty kill late in the third period.
After the final buzzer the Storm came out on top 3-1 thanks to goaltender Cam Plante allowing only 1 goal on 35 shots.
