Atom Storm LL#1 Open Playoffs vs AEMHA Ice Dogs
Saugeen Storm Atom LL#1, Allans Fireside Grill, opened their WOAA North Division playoff against the Ice Dogs. With Big Save Benny out of the lineup due to injury Andy stepped up for the job between the pipes for this game.
The Storm got off to a good start to the game with some hard battling and skating as the game got underway. Andy was looking pretty comfortable in net as he moved and followed the play well. Unfortunately at the mid point of the period, while the Storm were killing a penalty the Ice Dogs managed to beat Andy on a nifty passing play that he almost caught but just hit his glove then went in. The Storm continued to truck along but could not generate any scoring on the Ice Dogs and the period would close with the Storm down by one.
As the second got underway the Storm were confident they would get one back for Andy and the team has some great tries at the net but nothing would go in. The defense did a great job as they were quite busy shutting down Ice Dog rushes into our zone to help out the guest star in net. The Ice Dogs got two more goals at the midpoint of the period as the score was now 3-0. The Storm did not give up and they tried hard to get something going but were shut down every time and the period would close with the Storm still looking for a goal.
The third proved to be a challenge for the Storm as the forwards and the defense worked real hard but could not get anything going for them. The Ice Dogs would go on to score three more unanswered goals and the game was over. This was an unfortunate loss for the Storm as they really put a good effort forward with some good chances on net that would not get by the Ice Dogs netminder. Andy was awarded the Digger as decided by the players for strapping on the leather for the game and making some real good stops out there for his team.
