Saugeen Storm #1 vs Storm#2
Saugeen Storm Atom LL#1, Allan’s Fireside Grill, were host to Saugeen Storm Atom LL#2 Sunday morning in Southampton.  These games against the two Storm teams are always great as there is always plenty of fans cheering on their favourite Storm team and the players get a chance to play hard against their friends from down the street and their classmates.

The puck drops and the battle has begun, as the Storm#1 took to their opponents end right away and went to work.  Storm#2 didn’t know what hit them as the play was in their end for most of the first from the great work for the wingers, Smiley, Peter, Sabra, Ismail, Jack, Charlie, Andy and Hunter keeping pressure down low and always going after the other team when they had the puck and winning the battles all over.  The pucks kept going to the net but we were not able to get one past the hot Storm#2 goalie and the score was tied at nil at the end of the first.

The start of the second was very much the same with all Storm #1 players working real hard and not giving the other team anything as they were all over them, whenever they had the puck.  The breakouts for Storm#1 looked amazing with almost tic-tac-toe passing out of our zone starting from our great defensemen,  Josh, Wes, Talan, Zac, Andrew and Ian making that great pass up to the forwards or moving it out of our zone on their own then making a great play.  Despite this fantastic effort, Storm #2 cracked our armor with a goal just over three and a half minutes left in the period.  As the time winded down Nick and Riley continued to try and set plays up and the wingers kept the battle going and puck kept going to the net.

Starting of the third Storm#1 looked strong as if they were going to get one back for Big Save Benny who had not been very busy up till this point but made the stops he had to, and boy did they ever try with lots of pucks going to the net.  Unfortunately just before the 10 minute make Storm#2 stuck again and the score was 2-0.  Storm #1 kept up the battle but shortly after Storm#2 managed to slide one past Ben off a scramble out in front of him.  This would conclude the scoring and the game would end 3-0 in favour of Storm#2.  Despite the score on the board Storm#1 totally outplayed their opponents but were unable to get one past Stom#2’s goalie.  There is nothing to be ashamed of after working and battling hard like they did and the team was well praised after the game from the coaching staff for their efforts.

Good job out there team as the game was totally on you sticks and the other team just got a few lucky breaks that resulted in goals for them.  It is also important to note that most of the game was played in their end and when we had it in our end we got the puck out in an organized manner and moved up ice to set thing up in their end.

The Digger was awarded to Nick as he battled hard all game with some really good work all over the ice, great job Nick!!

Next Game- Saturday Jan 31st vs Bruce Peninsula#1, 1pm at the Plex
